About Me
Gopika Sheth is a junior in high school who created Second Tongue Archive to explore the stories, languages, and small cultural moments that shape immigrant families. Growing up between cultures made her curious about how people hold onto identity, and this project is her way of documenting the bits of heritage that often go unnoticed.
When she’s not working on the archive, she enjoys writing, volunteering in her community, and learning about politics, culture, and the ways they intersect.
Our Vision
Second Tongue Archive was created to preserve what often disappears in silence: the cultural knowledge, memories, and stories carried by immigrant and diaspora communities. We believe that language is more than communication; it’s identity, emotion, and traditions. But we also believe that culture is bigger than just language. From recipes to lullabies, family sayings to sacred rituals, these pieces of tradition are passed from person to person, often undocumented, unrecorded, and at risk of being forgotten. This archive exists to store them with care.
Through a mix of personal storytelling and peer-led teaching, we offer a space where anyone can share what they know and learn what they weren’t taught. Our digital story archive highlights narratives about identity, memory, and language. Our Studio turns lived knowledge into short, accessible cultural lessons, taught by real people. Second Tongue is both a record and a resource: an archive of voices and a living classroom for those who want to listen, learn, and carry culture forward.
